De'ang Ethnic Group
The De'ang people, also known as the "Benglong," are an ethnic minority inhabiting the mountainous regions along the China-Myanmar border. Their language belongs to the Austroasiatic family, specifically the Wa-De'ang branch of the Mon-Khmer subfamily. It is divided into three dialects: "Bule," "Rumai," and "Ruojin." The De'ang do not have a written script of their own. Over generations of coexistence with groups such as the Dai, Han, and Jingpo ethnicities, many members have become fluent in Dai, Mandarin Chinese, and Jingpo languages.
The De'ang people primarily reside People's Republic of China The area bordering the Republic of the Union of Myanmar is home to a typical ethnic group characterized by widespread dispersion with small, concentrated settlements. Their distribution spans a remarkably broad region, primarily on the Chinese side in Yunnan Province—specifically in Dehong and Baoshan. Lincang Including 3 prefectures and 9 counties/cities, on the Myanmar side these are located in areas such as Shan State and Kachin State.
According to 2010 The Sixth National Population Census Statistics show that the total population of the De'ang ethnic group is 20,556.
