Jingpo Ethnic Group


Jingpo Ethnic Group , one of China's ethnic minorities, has its own language and writing system. The language belongs to the Tibeto-Burman branch of the Sino-Tibetan family, with five distinct dialects grouped into the Jingpo and Burmese subgroups. As for writing, there are two scripts: Jingpo script and Zaiwa script—both are phonetic systems based on the Latin alphabet.

The Jingpo people trace their origins to the ancient Di-Qiang tribes of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. They are divided into five major subgroups: "Jingpo," "Zaiwa," "Lechi," "Lang'e," and "Bola," with most of them residing primarily in Yunnan Province. Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture Mountainous regions, where a small number reside Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture The region bordering Myanmar's Kachin State. Most Kachin subgroups within Myanmar share deep historical and cultural ties with the Jingpo and Lisu ethnic groups in China.

According to 2010 The Sixth National Population Census Statistics show that the total population of the Jingpo ethnic group is 147,828.
